Billie Schmidt

Billie graduated from D’Youville College in Buffalo, New York with a Biology degree and worked for 7 years as a medical technologist testing animal and human blood chemistry, first in Texas and then in Washington state.  She began volunteering at Children’s hospital in Seattle in the recreational therapy room and soon realized that working with kids and giving back to society was what she wanted as her career.  While working full time at night at a reference laboratory, she went back to school to Seattle Pacific University to get a second degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies.

Billie gained valuable experience working part time and interning for the Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Department, and upon completion of her BA from SPU gained even more experience while juggling 3 part time jobs at Bellevue Parks and Recreation, Bright & Early Primary School and the Bellevue Boys & Girls Club.  The Bellevue Boys & Girls Club position became full time in June of 1991.  Billie worked there for 3 years developing their after school and summer programs then moved to the Wallingford Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County where she worked for eight years, first as a Program Director and then Director of Operations.  She began working for the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound in March of 2003.

Billie feels that helping to make the community stronger by helping children succeed and getting involved in community projects builds better communities.  She sees children as our future and feels we should all work towards providing hope and opportunities for kids so they can become outstanding leaders and citizens, thereby strengthening our communities and making them better places to live.  Beyond her work for the Boys & Girls Clubs, she has been very involved in volunteering for numerous non-profit organizations.

Billie is married and has two children and spends as much free time as possible with family and friends camping, hiking & biking in the great northwest.
