Carrie Ching
Carrie grew up in Kaneohe, Hawaii. She married her
high school sweetheart and left the island to be an
Army officer’s wife. While in the Army, Carrie and
her husband raised two children. Carrie and her
family came back to Spanaway to retire from military
service. After a few years, Carrie went back to
school and earned her BA at the University of
Washington, Tacoma in 2000. She graduated, Cum
Laude, with an Interdisciplinary Arts and Science
degree and certification in the American Humanics
Nonprofit Management program.
While at the University of Washington, Carrie
started an internship with the Boys & Girls Clubs of
South Puget Sound. Being a resident of Spanaway,
she knew there were limited affordable activities
for youth in the area. She worked with the Teen
Advisory Committee, community leaders, and the
Bethel and Franklin Pierce School Districts to
establish a Boys & Girls Club in the
Parkland-Spanaway area. As a result of the
community’s dedication and commitment to making
Parkland-Spanaway a positive place for youth, the
Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound started
operations in the area in 2001.
Carrie managed operations in Bethel and Franklin
Pierce School Districts till 2006. In 2006, she was
promoted to the Director of Branch Programs and
Operations. Currently, Carrie supervises the
Directors of the Al Davies, East Side, Gonyea, and
South End Branches. In addition she manages the 21st
Century Community Learning Center grant, serving
five school districts, and supervises the Director
of Military Outreach. Carrie is also an active
member of the Parkland-Spanaway Rotary Club and
Past-President (2007-2008). If anyone is interested
